Neophyte Studios is the publishing arm of Southern Illinois University's Digital Xpressions Lab. Here, we upload the cutting edge work of creative writing MFA's dabbling in multimodal narratives and media!
Led by Professor Pinckney Benedict, our lab acts as the development and publishing hub for contemporary fiction in southern Illinois.
We host several weekly streams over on Twitch and every stream is available on our Youtube page.

Neophyte Studios came together for the critiquing, developing, and playing of narrative video games. As a collective, we are always searching for innovative and gripping game narratives. In other words, we hope to find games making profound use of ludic mechanics to harmoniously bolster a game's narrative. We believe that games are a medium with limitless with narrative possibility.
Our current goal with this itch.io page is to publish the games made by the students of SIU, lead narrative focused game jams, and spread the word about the Southern Illinois University Creative Writing Program. If you're thinking about studying creative writing as an undergraduate or graduate student, check out what our program has to offer! Our program fully embraces multimodality and you'll find fiction writing and game development opportunities at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The innovation and student leadership at Southern Illinois University has led to the creation of The Digital Xpressions Lab, Neophyte Studios, award winning audio fiction, and numerous collaborations with a world-wide network of collegiate and private partners.
Our ultimate goal is to act as a bridge between the worlds of the modern literature and game development. So, keep an eye out as things heat up!
